Questions
What categories go in a grant budget?
Federal budgets use personnel, fringe benefits, travel, equipment, supplies, contractual and other, plus indirect costs. Most foundations accept the same lines.
What is an indirect cost rate?
The share of shared costs, such as rent, accounting and insurance, charged on top of direct project costs. Federal grants allow a 15% de minimis rate (on modified direct costs) to organizations without a negotiated rate; many foundations cap indirect costs at 10% to 15%.
Should the budget show money from other sources?
Yes. Show the full project cost, what you're asking this funder for, and what other funders or your own budget cover. Funders like to see they aren't the only source.
