Federal agencies and programs
Questions
Which funders accept applications from anyone?
Look for programs marked Open or Rolling. Many large foundations, such as Ford, Gates and MacArthur, mostly fund by invitation, while store programs like Walmart Spark Good and bank foundations like Truist take open applications.
Do federal agencies give grants to small businesses?
Mostly for research and development, through SBIR and STTR. Agencies such as USDA Rural Development also fund rural businesses for energy and value-added projects.
